flowers

About the process:

Years ago I was inspired by seeing several of Georgia O'Keeffe's flower paintings at the Rings Exhibit in Atlanta, Georgia. Larger than life and beautifully executed, I had to try painting a giant rose in watercolor on the largest paper I could get my hands on. Not as giant as O'Keeffe's paintings, mine was about 22"x30". I painted several huge flowers, then scaled it down to a size I could frame without costing an arm and a leg. Most of these flowers are painted with watercolor, some are acrylic, and a couple are gouache with the background done with an airbrush to get a photographic look.
